About the Author

Dr. Tommy Olawuyi Oke came from Ogbomosho, Oyo State in Nigeria. He is a true pioneer among Nigerian immigrants who today have the highest levels of education in the United States. Dr. Oke was the first student from Africa to attend Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. He was admitted to TSU College of Pharmacy in 1957/58 as a freshman, when Hurd M. Jones was Pharmacy Dean. After completing his first two years of the BS in Pharmacy program, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma, where he received his BS in Pharmacy. He went on to earn advanced degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he graduated with both MS in Pharmacy and Pharm. D. (Doctor of Pharmacy) degrees. He has been recognized for his expertise by being appointed and reappointed as a consultant and member of the World Health Organization (WHO) expert committee on International Pharmacopoeia and Drug preparations.

In addition to his academic pursuits, today Dr. Oke is both a Consultant Pharmacist and servant-leader. He is a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with an MTh (Master of Theology) degree.
